Nomenclature
Baekdu
The system as part of the NameExoWorlds 2019 contest by South Korea. The star name Baekdu comes from Korean 백두산 Baekdusan, an important mountain situated at the North Korea-China border. It is said to "symbolise the national spirit of Korea". Its exoplanet companion Halla was named for 한라산 Hallasan, the highest peak in South Korea and a sacred spiritual site. The names share the common theme of sacred peaks of the Korean peninsula and symbols of peace and spirituality for the Korean people.
