Nomenclature

The star name first appeared in an Arabic text. However, the text's author evidently misread part the scientific Arabic name for the star al-Tinnīn, 'the serpent', as al-Tais. The latter is a real Arabic word meaning 'the he-goat' but was never used in indigenous Arab star culture, showing it must be a mistranscription.
