Nomenclature

Errai

The name was applied in modern times, derived from the indigenous Arabic term for the star al-Rā‘ī, 'the shepherd', the leader of the scene of al-Firq, 'the flock'. They could be seen shepherding al-Aġnām, 'the sheep' (various stars of Cepheus), with Kalb al-Rā‘ī, 'the sheepdog' (ρ Cep).
