Nomenclature
Mazaalai
The star and its exoplanet were named as part of the NameExoWorlds 2019 contest by Mongolia. The star was named Мазаалай Mazaalai after the Mongolian term for the endangered Gobi bear (Ursus arctos gobiensis) of the Gobi Desert, as well as for Mongolia's first satellite. The name was also chosen because the star lies within Ursa Major, the Great Bear. Its exoplanet companion was named Бамбарууш Bambaruush, a Mongolian term meaning 'bear cub', alluding the planet being a child of the bear star.
