Nomenclature
Tonglingxing
桐陵 Tónglíng was the name for the sixth star of 紫微右垣 Zǐwēiyòuyuán, 'Purple Palace Right Wall', from the Han period to the Tang period, after which it was supplanted by 少卫 Shàowèi, 'second imperial guard' (see Shaowei (γ Cam)). 桐 tóng comes from the name of the wutong tree (Firmiana simplex), the perch of the Chinese phoenix. 陵 líng denotes a "high mound". Thus, the name 桐陵 Tónglíng means 'Phoenix Tree Mound'. It was combined with 星 xīng, 'star', to differentiate from a similarly-named asteroid.
