The system was named by the Sociedad Astronomica Urania of Morelos, Mexico as part of the NameExoWorlds 2015 contest. The star was named Tonatiuh after the Aztec god of the sun, while its exoplanet companion was named Meztli after the Aztec goddess of the moon.
