Nomenclature

Grumium

The name is a misspelling of the Latin word grunnum, meaning 'snout, or muzzle (esp. that of a pig)'. The word was used in the medieval Latin Almagest to describe the star, as Ptolemy had it "on the jawbone", and was then applied as a star name in modern times.
